Estenopeic Nomadic Cell

The cell is an element that transforms the way of understanding reality. It is an experience that strongly conditions you, whether to overcome it, to endure it, to reveal yourself or to combat it. It is an experience that shapes a vision of the world. From there, the way of relating to people, of doing things, of building life, will always be, in a certain way, conditioned by this episode.

This project presents the 1:1 scale reproduction of cell 398 of Gallery 4 of the Barcelona Model where Rafael Sardà i Llorenç (member of the Poum and Republican soldier) was closed for three years. With the desire to understand the origins of our inherited gazes, we literally transformed the cell into an instrument for seeing: a giant pinhole camera that makes physical the idea that the cell makes up the way of seeing. In this small space isolated from the world, empty and gray, the outside filters into the inside through the small pinhole and floods it with images. The walls disappear and we find ourselves in the middle of the landscape, in a position that is both inside and outside, closed and open. In this environment of Sant Pere de Riudebitlles that was familiar to him, now seen from within, creating a series of interior landscapes.
